Muslim Councils commend Mahama for declaring Eid Public holidays

Muslim Council Praises President Mahama for Eid-ul-Fitr Public Holidays

The Federation of Muslim Councils (FMC) has extended its appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama for designating March 31 and April 1, 2025, as public holidays to commemorate Eid-ul-Fitr.

In a press statement released to the Ghana News Agency, signed by FMC General Secretary Al-Hajj Muhammad Amir Kpakpo Addo, the Council acknowledged the President’s delivery on a campaign promise made to the Muslim community. The statement highlighted that the additional holiday would help mitigate challenges some Muslims encounter in fully observing the festival due to the varying 29 or 30-day lunar calendar.

The FMC’s statement read, “We are grateful to President Mahama for recognizing the significance of Eid-ul-Fitr and declaring an additional public holiday to enable Muslims to celebrate this joyous occasion.”

The organization further stressed that the extended holiday would promote unity, inclusivity, and religious tolerance within Ghana, allowing Muslims ample time to celebrate with family and loved ones. The FMC lauded the President’s leadership in fostering national unity and social cohesion, urging all Muslims to observe the occasion peacefully while upholding values of tolerance and understanding.

The statement concluded with “Eid Mubarak to all Muslims in Ghana and around the world!
